   • KET (Key English Test) is an English language examination provided by Cambridge English Language Assessment (previously known as University of Cambridge ESOL examination). 1. What are Starter - Movers - Flyers certificates?
These are three English Certificates that belong to YLE (Young Learners English Test) Certificate System organized and issued by English Testing Council of Cambridge University for children aged 7 – 12, admitted over 160 countries and divided into three levels.
   • Starter: for candidate aged 7 with about 100 hours of English study.
   • Mover: for candidate aged 7 - 11 with about 175 hours of English study.
   • Flyer: for candidate aged 9 - 12 with about 250 hours of English study.

2. Why do children need to take part in these certificates?
These are certificates used to standardize English knowledge for grade 4 – 5 pupils by Primary Education Department and Ministry of Education and Training according to Project 1400 of Ministry of Education and Training mentioned in the Official Document 6003/BGDĐT-GDTH, issued 21/09/2010.

3. Process, structure and exam form:

All candidates can receive certificates. The exam results are represented by the Shield images printed in certificate. Each skill has maximum of five Shield images. Therefore, candidate who achieves absolute marks gets 15 Shield images. There are not any rules for failed or pased marks but the average marks agreed to pass must be over 10 Shield images and each skill is not less than 02 Shield images.

At 5:45pm on 14 April, 2013, BIET has started Enlgish B1 according to Common European Framework for learners who are studying MA. Nine learners attended this class. After being guided about B1’s structure and details of each part, all learners did the test eagerly because of highly correct answers. These learners will take English B1 exam held by Cambridge ESOL Examinations and Education and Training Department of Khanh Hoa in Nha Trang City on 18th and 19th May, 2013. We hope all these learners are going to pass this exam.

A. What is B1 Exam? Who must have this certificate? What is its benefits?:

B. What papers does B1 (PET – Preliminary English Test) include?:
    • There are 04 papers according to 04 skills: Reading – Writing – Listening – Speaking.
 
PAPER 1: READING & WRITING (1 hour 30 minutes)
    * Reading: 05 parts, 35 questions
      • The candidates are required to read announcements, messages and other short texts and choose the correct answers (Multiple choices).
    * Writing: 03 parts, 07 questions
      • The candidates are required to transform sentences, write a 35 – 45 short paragraph and a 100 – word letter or a story.
PAPER 2: LISTENING (35 minutes including 6 minutes to transfer answers)
    * Listening: 04 parts, 25 questions
      • The candidates are required to listen each situation twice and it takes them 06 minutes to answer this paper format.
PAPER 3: SPEAKING (10 – 12 minutes for each pair of candidates)
   * Speaking:  15 minutes
     • The candidates are required to speak English with another. There are two examiners. One of the examinors acts as an interlocutor and the other as an assessor. The interlocutor directs the test and sometimes asks the candidate some questions or ask him/her to speak English with the other while the assessor takes no part in the interaction.

Results:
Mark Scheme: 100. Reading and Writing represent 50%, Listening 25%, Speaking 25% of total marks for the whole examination. There are two levels of pass: Pass and High – Grade Pass. The candidates can get B1 (PET) of Cambridge ESOLfor both of them and it is valid for everlasting.

A. What is B2 (FCE - First Certificate in English) exam?:
    B2 (FCE - First Certificate in English) is an intermediate - advanced English Exam belonging to CEFR that tests learner’s English proficiency in many professions and other fields such as business, medicine, technical – science, secretary, management, tourism, … and learner is also in charge of answering daily letters, communicating with others on the phone, learning non-academic courses, understanding simple textbooks and articles.
B. What papers does B2 (FCE) include?: There are 05 papers.
     I. Reading: 1 hour, 03 parts, 30 questions
       • Candidates are required to read the extracts from books, literature magazines, novels, or articles by summarizing main ideas or details and their sentence structures.
     II. Writing: 1 hour and 20 minutes, 02 parts, 02 questions.
       • Candidates are required to write a letter, an article, a report, … The composition consists of 120 – 180 words with different topics and reader.
     III. Use of English: 45 minutes, 04 parts, 42 questions
     • Candidates are required to demonstrate their Engish Language by completing different exercises on sentence or paragraph writing, filling the blanks, word – order or word – phrase transformation, and error recognition.
     IV. Listening: 40 minutes, 04 parts, 30 questions.
    • This paper assesses candidate’s Listening Skill via communicative situations. The listening topics consist of many fields such as interview, discussion, explanation and conversations.
     V. Speaking:  14 minutes, 04 parts.
     • This paper assesses candidate’s English communication in different contexts. It consists of 04 parts: interview, self – presentation, collaborative exercises and discussion. The candidates are given support materials such as pictures, drawing and they usually work in pair.

Results:
Each paper represents 20% of total marks. There are 03 levels for pass: A, B and C. The candidate who gets A, B and C mark scheme will be awarded this certificate. The candidate who gets D and E mark scheme will not be awarded this certificate and it is valid for everlasting.

CEFR describes learner’s ability basing on 06 levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2:
